Public Space Dual-Video Concept Proposal — Theme: SIGNAL — NOISE

Concept Description (English)

This project juxtaposes two visual studies of bird life in the same misty, threshold environment to explore the tension between quiet focal presence and collective movement—embodying MCBW 2027’s theme, SIGNAL — NOISE.

Part I: The Focal Presence (Signal)

In the first video study, a small group of waterbirds glides peacefully across calm, fog-shrouded waters. Their distinct, deliberate presence on the muted surface acts as a visual “signal”—a quiet, singular focal point that cuts through the ambient haze and invites focused contemplation.

Part II: The Collective Movement (Noise)

In contrast, the second video study captures a flock of seagulls in restless motion along the concrete edge. Their sudden takeoffs, overlapping wingbeats, and ambient cries embody the dynamic, unpredictable “noise” of the environment—an unfiltered layer of constant motion and sensory input.

Duality & Public Space Intervention

Together, the two visual studies examine how we experience clarity amidst surrounding activity. By bringing this dialogue between calm focus and collective motion into Munich's public realm, the installation invites passersby to reflect on how we perceive signals, navigate environmental noise, and find moments of stillness in urban life.
